Coming from a long line of military officers, Relik was always destined to become a Ferrikin knight like his ancestors. This led to an immense amount of pressure being placed on his shoulders to continue the family military tradition.
Growing up in a strict household, all Relik’s father cared about was turning his son into the best soldier he could possibly be. Relik spent years in the Ferrikin army receiving harsh treatment from his superiors, father, and fellow soldiers. Finally, though, he was granted the opportunity to become a squire. Thanks to
his father’s connections, Relik was assigned to the most tenured and harshest knight in the force, Sir Graven. Graven had already worked his way through multiple squires in the past making them all quit or die in their pursuit of knighthood.
Over the years that Relik served under Sir Graven, he was subjected to particularly harsh and brutal treatment. Sir Graven was determined to make him quit his pursuit of knighthood but Relik refused to give up. Finally, after years of harsh training, Relik was given his quest by the king. Much to his surprise, however, his quest wasn’t to travel to a distant, far off land but rather to defend his home kingdom from humanoid invaders.
The battle was fierce and filled with sacrifice as the knight and squire fought side by side. Sadly in the middle of the battle, a grenade was tossed which exploded right next to Sir Graven and Relik. The former was killed in action and the latter had his entire right side blown away. Barely clutching to his remaining life force, Relik was able to drag himself to the medics who treated his injuries and fitted him with a prosthetic arm, leg, and eye. Recognized for his bravery and valor, Relik had finally achieved his goal of being knighted.
After years of service to his kingdom, Relik advanced up the ranks and was eventually promoted to Captain of the Guard.
Role: Knight/ Military Captain
Height: 6’5
Weight: 190 lbs
Race: Human
Born and raised in the snowy northern region of the world, Relik and his people are tough and durable due to years of being exposed to all types of severe weather.
Raised to be a soldier first and foremost, Relik knows no other life. He has no patience for foolish or trivial things and only cares about the mission at hand. Always strategizing, he is often multiple steps ahead of his opponents both on and off the battlefield. Years of serving loyally in the military have made him a serious individual no matter what task is facing him.
Relik comes from the capital city of one of the largest and most militaristic kingdoms in the north, Ferrous Keep. The people of this region, known as Ferrikin, revere the knighthood and all of the qualities that come with it.
Knights in this area are held up as shining examples and regarded as local celebrities with high social standing.
Most Ferrikin children grow up with the desire to become knights and live their young lives striving to uphold the ideals of the knighthood which include loyalty, bravery, honor, and honesty. At the age of sixteen, all children join the city’s military force and begin their training towards the ultimate goal of becoming a royal knight, which is no easy feat. In order to become a knight, the trainee must be chosen by an established knight who will take them under
their wing as a squire. Once chosen to be a squire, the trainee lives a life of servitude, attending to all of their knight’s needs.
Over the years, the Ferrikin people have learned to adapt to the harsh environment in which they live. The aspects of their society that impresses people the most, however, is their inventiveness with gunpowder weapons, including pistols, rifles, and cannons and their development of biomechanics which allows them to construct perfectly working prosthetic limbs.
Unlike other cultures found around the world, Ferrikins believe education and training should be more personal. Constructed around the knight-squire relationship (which can last for years), the knight acts as a personal instructor to the squire imparting all of their knowledge and experience. Occasionally the knight will test the squire on what they have learned to determine if they are worthy of further knowledge and training.
When the knight feels that his squire is ready, the pair will approach the king with a request to be sent on a quest. The king will then send the knight and squire on a quest of his choosing which involves the knight traveling with the squire all the way up to the final destination at which point the squire will be left alone to complete the objective that they were assigned. If the knight is pleased with what they see, they will return to the king and the squire will be officially knighted.
After receiving their title, the new knight will begin working hard to gain enough experience to someday get a squire of their own, thus continuing the circle of life.
With so many Ferrikins growing up in or around the military, it is no wonder that they are superb fighters capable of dealing damage in even the harshest of physical environments. Thanks to his years of military training, Relik is adept with swords and guns as well as team tactics. A natural leader, Relik knows how best to protect his team members through the use of shield walls. He is also very much used to fighting in his thick suit of armor, which does not hinder his movements at all.
Relik likes to be well armed with traditional Ferrikin weapons and armor which includes a thick shield in one hand and unbreakable jade sword in the other. On his body, he carries sharp-shooting pistols and mini-grenades. Along with these items, Relik is also in possession of magical armor that contains a pressable seal. When pressed, the armor transforms into an impenetrable, personal fortress until the seal is pressed again.
