The invention of the Mecha Knights goes back hundreds of years to a time when Ferrous Keep was engaged in a brutal war. Invented through a collaboration between Ferrikin engineers and an “Enchanter” Spell Caster named Dhali, who was capable of infusing items with magical power, the
Mecha Knights were built and given the magical seals which would give them the power of simple cognitive thought processes. Sadly, Dhali died shortly after the first batch of Mecha Knights were created and no other Enchanter has ever been able to replicate the magic. For this reason, Mecha Knights have slowly dwindled in numbers. Some were destroyed in the great war and some rusted and fell apart from age, leaving only a handful of automatons remaining.
Croggs however, has always been different from the other Mecha Knights, as when he was created, his seal was slightly damaged and thus granted him a greater level of personal consciousness unbeknownst to his creators. At the age of eight, during a battle on a very stormy day, Relik became disoriented while trying to hide, slipped, and fell into a river that swept him away. Grabbing onto a log, Relik tried to keep his head above water but his grip was slipping and he was about to drown.
Nearby, Croggs was engaged in battle with the knights when he noticed the drowning Relik. Unable to speak and unable to move due to not being given the order, Croggs watched Relik’s plight. It was at this point that something changed within him that heightened his consciousness and caused him to move without orders to save the drowning boy.
After saving Relik and bringing him to safety, Croggs had the misfortune of being struck by lightning right in his magical seal. The damage was fatal to the automaton and caused him to cease to exist. Weeping over his savior, Relik didn’t even notice the rain stopping and the battle coming to an end. He did notice, however, when Croggs was revived thanks to a ‘Shaping Sprite’ who was attracted to Croggs’s act of bravery and chose to bond with the automaton. The Saping Sprite phased out of the Maarose and bonded with Croggs. This act revived Croggs, and the Sprite then evolved in to a Shaping Wisp, thus turning Croggs into a Shapeshifter spell Caster.
Now reborn with full consciousness, Croggs became known as the one and only Mecha Knight who was able to think and act independently, as well as become a spell caster. Relik and Croggs became instantly bonded for life that day and have been close companions ever since to the point that Croggs gave Relik’s armor the ability to transform.
Role: Guardian/ Spell Caster
Height: 9’0
Weight: 1,000 lbs
Race: Mecha Knight
Forged in the depths of Ferrous Keep, Mecha Knights are an invention exclusive to the Ferrikins. Hulking, bipedal automatons, these machines are created from iron and steel and are capable of performing basic tasks with minimal cognitive functions.
Despite having full consciousness, Croggs still does not have the ability to speak which leaves him only able to communicate through sounds and whistles.
Mentally equivalent to a young child, Croggs is very curious and is constantly wanting to gain new knowledge and touch things. He is something of an attraction wherever he goes as few people have ever seen a Mecha Knight in person. Croggs does not possess moderate emotions and thus lives a life of extremes. When he is happy, he is over the moon. When he is sad, there aren’t enough buckets to catch his figurative tears, and so on.
Created to serve as protectors of Ferrous Keep, they are armed with large cannons on their backs. They are capable of simple thoughts but form them slowly and are only able to perform simple commands made up of one word (“stop”, “attack”, etc). Despite being able to think, they are unable to speak and have no emotions.
Being a hulking metal automaton, Croggs possesses many obvious advantages over the other members of the party. Equipped with cannons and a Wisp which allows him to shapeshift, he is able to become a variety of different large weapons, including a tank and a cannon tower.
Croggs is a giant living weapon of mass power and destruction. Not only is he able to destroy things with his large cannons but when in his original form, he can do vast amounts of damage with his long arms and large hands.
Croggs is in possession of a Shaping Wisp, which makes him a Shape Shifter Spell Caster.
